"You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up." Deuteronomy 6:5-7

We Are Getting Ready!

Here is a picture of our Kindergarten curriculum. We went with a program called Sonlight, which is a Christian literature based curriculum. As you can see we will spend a LOT of time reading (and playing).

One of the things I like about this curriculum is that it has a strong missions focus; in fact it was created to be used by families on the mission field. There is a book that I can't wait to read with the girls called, I Heard Good News Today; it is about spreading the gospel. Emma will LOVE it!

Emma will continue to learn to read. She is doing pretty good with her 3 letter words (I couldn't wait to start teaching her to read). We will also read Johnny Appleseed, Dr. Doolittle, James Herriot's Animal Stories, William Tell. And we will study 15 heroes of the faith such as David Livingstone, and William and Catherine Booth.
I am also very excited about our math program. We chose Math-U-See, which is a hands on, multiple modality approach to math. Emma will be solving for the unknown this year (basic algebra).

Aside from the basic preparations we have been making, we have not neglected the spiritual preparation. I have been praying for the Lord to equip us as a family to be able to truly enrich our girls' lives. Here are some verses that have shaped our vision for our family.

"For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ . . . " 2 Corinthian 10:3-5

This journey is just beginning for us, but God knows where we are going. We will follow Him for each step. I would love this blog to be a place for me to journal our progress and celebrate our accomplishments!
